What does DVR mean?

DVR means Digital VCR

A DVR is a device that has the ability to store broadcasts on a hard disk. This is sometimes a separate device but often also a functionality of a satellite receiver or digital decoder. A DVR is also often called a PVR (Personal Video Recorder), depending on the manufacturer/supplier. The capabilities of the DVR/PVR depend on the software used, but globally it can be compared to a VCR. Most of them also have the possibility to look back with delay (this means that you can watch while still being recorded). The more extensive versions also have access to the EPG, or the automatic skipping of advertisements.
