What does RIVM mean?

The RIVM is an institute that (commissioned by the government) conducts research in the field of public health and the environment, and also gives advice. It is an independent part of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Each year, the RIVM presents numerous reports and opinions on public health and health care, food, nature and the environment and disaster management.

At the RIVM, more than 1000 people work in laboratories and teams with a special research task. Opdrachtsgevers of the RIVM are the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Housing, the Ministry of Agriculture, various inspections, the European Union and the United Nations.
