EHS means ecological main structure
The EHS is a network of nature areas in which nature takes precedence and is protected. The protection prevents natural areas from being isolated and animals and plants dying out. The EHS can therefore be seen as the backbone of Dutch nature. The EHS consists of reserves, nature development areas, nature reserves, agricultural areas and large waters. By counteracting the fragmentation of the nature reserves, animals and plants are more likely to spread. In nature policy it has been agreed that in 2018, approximately 728,500 hectares of ecological main structure must be realised
