Olivia “Liv” Boeree is a British poker player as well as a television presenter, science communicator, writer, model, speaker and charity supporter. She was born on July 18, 1984, in Kent, England.
Her poker career kicked off in 2005 when she got selected as one of five contestants in the reality TV show “Ultimate Poker Showdown.” She showed a great talent for the card games from the start and was able to take her game to the next level with help from famous high rollers such as Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and Dave Ulliott.
Her first real breakthrough came in 2010 when she won the European Poker Tour (EPT) event in Sanremo. At that time, this was the biggest poker tournament held in Europe, during which Boeree crushed her opponents and won €1,250,000. She was the third woman in history to win an EPT title.
She continued her streak of wins, and in 2017, at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, she won the $10,000 No-Limit Hold ‘em Tag Team Championship for $273,964 in a team effort, along with her boyfriend (and a legendary poker player in his own right), Igor Kurganov.
Boeree continues to travel around the world under the banner of Team PokerStars Pro. And as of 2017, her total live poker tournament winnings amount to more than $3,500,000.
But being one of the top poker players in the world is only one of the hats that Boeree currently wears. She started her higher education at Ashford School, Kent, and went on to earn First Class Honors degree in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Manchester. Her lifelong interest in physics, game theory and education inspired her to give her first TEDx Talk in Manchester in February 2018. Moreover, she was a guest speaker at Oxford University as well as many other educational and business institutions around the world, including the Google HQ in Mountain View, California.
She also has a growing YouTube channel where she explores profound scientific ideas in a light-hearted way. On the list of her videos, you can find the ones about supercomputers, the physics of water wheels or a lecture about the engineering of the Panama Canal. With wide-ranging interests and passions, Liv Boeree is a real modern polymath, leaving no stone unturned in her pursuit of knowledge. Even in the profile photo on her Twitter account (which has over 140,000 followers), she poses with an owl, a symbol of wisdom.
Boeree’s brand goes way beyond social media and the internet. She appeared on television numerous times and worked with production companies such as the Discovery Channel, Red Bull TV, Channel 4, NBC, BBC as well as ITV. In her programs, she often talks about persuasion, mind manipulation or game theory. She’s a persuasive speaker and always keeps her cool, which contributes to her success in the poker sphere, too.
Finally, she and her boyfriend Igor Kurganov are deeply involved in charity work and the “effective altruism” movement popularized by a young scholar William MacAskill. The idea behind this philosophy is to make the world a better place by transferring funds only to the most effective charities that can make the most significant positive impact in the world. Boeree is also a founder and ambassador for Raising for Effective Giving or REG Charity, which encourages poker players to give away parts of their earnings to charitable causes.
In the future, expect Boeree to continue exploring her intellectual interests and sharing valuable insights with the world. She’s not only a talented poker player but also an individual gifted with an insatiable curiosity and thirst for new knowledge. It doesn’t matter if she’s involved in developing her poker career, charity work or another television gig, there is always something new and exciting on her to-do list.
IGTV means Insta gram Television
IGTV is actually an app of Insta that makes it possible to watch videos of 60 minutes. So it’s actually a kind of YouTube from the creators of Insta gram. You can also view the IGTV content via the normal Insta app. At the beginning there will be no ads to be seen within IGTV, this because there must first be a love for the platform, and then scare ads off soon of course. How that will be in the future is unclear, but the creators of the video will still want to be paid for their effort, so somewhere money will have to come today. Because everything is meant to be viewed on your phone, and because you usually have it in your hand, the videos will all be vertical (see also VVS). When you open the app, it immediately starts playing videos. And the video content is of course tuned to your Insta activity: So who you’re following or what type of content you’ve given the most hearts. Read More
Saturday Night Live (abbreviated as SNL) is an American late-night live television sketch comedy and variety show created by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol
The show premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title NBCs Saturday Night. The shows comedy sketches, which parody contemporary culture and politics, are performed by a large and varying cast of repertory and newer cast members. Each episode is hosted by a celebrity guest (who usually delivers an opening monologue and performs in sketches with the cast) and features performances by a musical guest. An episode normally begins with a cold open sketch that ends with someone breaking character and proclaiming, Live from New York, its Saturday Night!, properly beginning the show.
In 1980, Michaels left the series to explore other opportunities. He was replaced by Jean Doumanian, who was replaced by Ebersol after a season of bad reviews. Ebersol ran the show until 1985, when Michaels returned; Michaels has remained since then. Many of SNLs cast found national stardom while appearing on the show, and achieved success in film and television, both in front of and behind the camera. Others associated with the show, such as writers, have gone on to successful careers creating, writing, or starring in TV and film.
Broadcast from Studio 8H at NBCs headquarters in the Comcast Building, SNL has aired 825 episodes since its debut, and began its forty-second season on October 1, 2016, making it one of the longest-running network television programs in the United States. The show format has been developed and recreated in several countries, meeting with different levels of success. Successful sketches have seen life outside of the show as feature films, although only two met with critical and financial success: The Blues Brothers (1980) and Waynes World (1992). The show has been marketed in other ways, including home media releases of best of and whole seasons, and books and documentaries about behind-the-scenes activities of running and developing the show.
MSNBC is an American basic cable and satellite television network that provides news coverage and political commentary from NBC News on current events
The network also carries a nightly opinion programming block during prime time hours. It is owned by the NBCUniversal News Group, a unit of the NBCUniversal Television Group division of NBCUniversal, all of which are owned by Comcast.
MSNBC and msnbc.com were founded in 1996 as a partnership between Microsoft and General Electrics NBC unit, hence the networks naming. Although they shared the same name, msnbc.com and MSNBC maintained separate corporate structures and news operations, with msnbc.com headquartered on the West Coast on the Microsoft campus in Redmond, Washington, and MSNBC in the NBC headquarters in New York. Microsoft divested its stake in the MSNBC channel in 2005, and divested its stake in msnbc.com in July 2012, rebranding the general news site as NBCNews.com and creating a new msnbc.com as the online home of the cable news channel. As of February 2015, approximately 94,531,000 households (81.2% of those with television) have the ability to receive MSNBC within the United States of America.
In the late summer of 2015, MSNBC revamped its programming. The moves were in sharp contrast to previous programming decisions at the network, with the entire lineup of opinionated afternoon programming being cancelled. Along with this, moves were made to sharpen the channels news image through a dual editorial relationship with its organizational parent NBC News. MSNBC Live, the networks flagship daytime news platform was expanded to cover over eight hours of the day.
