LAN means local Area Network
A LAN is a local area network: 2 or more computers connected directly (or through a shared media). The first well-known LAN is ARCNet, which came into the market in 1977. There are 2 ways to make a connection: with cables or Wi-Fi. A LAN is usually limited to a local area, often a business building. The range is limited by the techniques used, when the network is more remote (e.g. a network between cities or countries), a Wide Area network (WAN) is spoken.
