Fondant comes from the French ' fondre ' that means melting. Fondant is the basis of all kinds of fillings in chocolates and can also be used as glaze for cakes and cupcakes. There are two types of fondants: liquid and sugarpaste. The liquid fondant is known from A.O. The Tompoucen and is only rarely made at home. The sugarpaste is a dough-like substance of powdered sugar, gelatin, corn malt syrup and margarine (or glycerin). Sugarpaste is rolling out and ideal for topping up luxury cakes (wedding cakes), the sugarpaste is easy to make at home and quickly give a professional look for your own cake creations.
