Christmas is celebrating the birth of Jesus
Christmas is the general term for the feast celebrated on December 25th, the Catholics call it Christmas and Protestants call it Christmas or Christmas party. In The Oriental Churches (which use the Julian calendar) the feast is celebrated 13 days later. In Many areas there are also special celebrations on the evening before (Christmas Eve). The Christmas party is an important feast in the West and people are generally also free of work, the Sundays for Christmas are Advent Sundays.
