What is a Hanseatic city?

A Hanseatic city is a city that is a member of the Hanseatic League

Hanseatic cities are members of the Hanseatic League, a German association of cities around the Baltic Sea. In the years that followed, a number of Dutch cities were also members of the Covenant to be able to trade better and safer. The Hanseatic cities are from the Middle Ages but some places still call themselves a Hanseatic city (often to promote tourism). At the height of the Covenant, 200 cities were connected.
