What does HTML mean?

HTML means Hyper Text Markup Language

HTML is the language used to create documents that you view on the World Wide Web, such as this page. With HTML it is possible to link within a document with text to an image, or a video. By using the HTML language, you give the browser the text you want to appear in, and how to display it. An HTML file is a simple text file that you can simply create, edit and read with a text editor. The language itself is a description language, and thus contains commands that describe headers, tables, and graphic elements. HTML was submitted as a draft in 1993 and has received many extra possibilities over the course of time, since then the 5th version of HTML has been reached. More about the (UN) possibilities and the standards can be read on the website of the W3C.
