Opposition means opposite
In politics, the opposition is the parties that do not participate in the government. The opposition is usually made up of all parties not represented in the executive, but this is not always the case. Sometimes parties give tolerance support which makes it not an opposition. The leader of the largest party in the opposition is usually called the opposition leader. In a democracy like the Netherlands, opposition is part of the government principle, in dictatorial countries the opposition is often seen as illegal.
