What does piri-piri mean?

Piri piri is Swahili for red pepper

Piri piri is originally from America and was brought to Africa by Portuguese navigators where it quickly struck and was included in herbal mixes. In Portugal It is now a popular ingredient in the kitchen and has also penetrated the rest of the world. The composition may be different in different countries, but it is basically: oil, peppers (cayenne pepper, chili pepper) and salt.
