What does SOS mean?

SOS means Save Our souls

An SOS is an (international) emergency signal for wireless communication. Sometimes it is also called ' Save Our Ship ' for the abbreviation, it is not 100% a real abbreviation, but more a way to indicate that help is needed. An SOS is passed through Morse code:

The origin of the SOS signal is in the early years of 1900. With the modern techniques there are enough alternatives, for emergency situations at sea nowadays GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) is used.
