Pilates is a number of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates that aim to strengthen the entire body, stretch and balance. The exercises usually take place on a mat (some on specially designed appliances), and work is done from the Body centre (in Pilates terms this is the powerhouse) and supported by a proper respiratory pattern. The exercises are aimed at the lower back, abdomen, pelvis and glutes which makes the powerhouse stronger.
