Port is a fortified wine

Port is a sweet wine with an alcohol content of between 18 and 20 percent. Often, port is served as an aperitif or dessert wine. In Europe only port from Portugal can use the label port. Legally speaking, port can only come from the area along the Douro River (northern Portugal). There are actually 2 types of port: Ruby and Tawny. Ruby Port Matures on the bottle and is especially fruitgedomineerd and is often dark, deep red. Tawny Port matures on the barrel and is houtgedomineerd and has a more brownish color.
