Snert is another word for pea soup
Many people call peas soup snert, but this is not quite the same. Snert is a thick soup made from a.o. Split peas and pork. Pea soup is somewhat thinner than snert and is often made with smoke sausage. The soup is mainly made in the winter months and tastes best when it has been a day after the preparation. In the Netherlands, the Snert or pea soup is often given with rye bread (with bacon or butter). Many people have their own specific ingredients that they stop in the soup.
