What is a health insurance?

A health insurance is a health insurance

The health insurance is a statutory health insurance for Dutch. This basic insurance covers the necessary costs of medical care (GP, hospital, Medicine), and has been in force since 2006 (National Health Insurance and private insurance). Every Dutchman is obliged to insure themselves, and the insurers are obliged to accept everyone. What is covered in the basic insurance is determined by the government.

Besides the basic insurance you can also insure with additional health insurance. Here you can think of alternative therapies, (extensive) dental help, extra physiotherapy, etc. These packages are different for each insurer, and for these insurances the insurer is not obliged to accept anyone. Children up to 18 years old do not have to pay a premium and fall under the basic insurance of a parent.
