What does last minute mean?

Last minutes are cheap travel

Last minutes or last minute is a term used in the travel industry, to indicate that it is a trip that is booked at the last minute. The idea behind the last minutes is to sell travel/hotels that are not yet fully booked yet. Example: Often, a travel organisation 50 seats in a plane, a week before departure, there are three more spots left, then they put in a last minute to get the last three even sold. The last minute travel or overnight stays are often cheaper in this way than the normal fare. Last minutes are now so well established that it is used in all sorts of areas, it used to be only for air travel but now you can see car rental, hotel nights and bus trips. It is now also used as an advertising tool and can book your last minutes well in advance (so it is actually not a real last minute).
