Odalisque means slave or concubine
A odalisque was a slave in the harem of the Turkish sultan, it probably comes from French to Dutch but originally comes from the Turkish Odalik (which means room girl). The Odalisque is a common figure in painters: a Welgevulde, often lying on a divan. Often the Odalisque looks at the viewer of the painting, and the paintings are perceived as erotic.
