What does Simavi mean?

Simavi means aid in medical matters for indigenous peoples

Simavi is a development organisation that assumes that everyone is entitled to good health. Simavi therefore works in poor areas for people's health, with a special focus on mothers because they play a key role in the health of the rest of the family. By ensuring safe drinking water and good hygiene, and with the knowledge to prevent diseases, Simavi offers direct and practical support. Simavi started in 1925 with the aim to provide the reformed missionary doctors in the Dutch East Indies with medicines and instruments. Not long thereafter, the aid was extended to reformed and Baptist doctors and the field of work was also extended. Meanwhile, Simavi gives financial support to local initiatives (which are usually also carried out by the local population) that promote health.
