Blauwalg is a bacterium
Blue algae (or blue seaweeds) are bacateriën that apply photosynthesis to survive (and is actually the Cyanobacterie). The BLAUWALG is not always blue, there are also reddish-brown blue algae. The BLAUWALG is toxic and causes a cloudy and stinking water, in the summer it often occurs in (open) bathing water. The bacterium can cause gastrointestinal symptoms, some people also receive skin problems, nausea, headaches and irritation to the eyes. The department is doing everything to prevent the blauwalg, but this is not always possible, check this page for more information and links to the quality of the bathing water.
