A chick lit is reading literature for women
It is a somewhat condescending name for the romantic literature of the moment, written for women between the age of 20 and 35. It's also actually the sequel to the Chick-flick: A typical women's movie. In The books Modern women's themes are described as (bizarre) Sex and Insanity, this is written on a smooth (often superficial) way. In the Netherlands, the work of Heleen van Violeta often falls into the category chick lit. The genre is no longer to be thought of, and there is also a website that focuses on this: chicklit.nl.
